A family moving into a new home in Dumont, New Jersey, contacted American Star Locksmith for security advice and help choosing new locks.
Our first recommendation was to replace the lock cylinders at the house and storage area. Starting with new cylinders helps the owners establish control over access without relying on keys that may have been copied or passed on before they moved in.
We also discussed several smart lock options. The family chose a Yale lock with a push-button keypad and a physical key option, giving them the convenience of code entry while retaining a traditional way to unlock the door.
Preparing the Door and Installing the Yale Lock
The installation photos show the door preparation and the completed Yale keypad lock. During preparation, we used a drilling guide to position the mounting opening for the new lock above the existing doorknob.
The finished installation shows the Yale unit in place, with its numbered buttons above the key cylinder. The existing doorknob remains below it, with the keypad lock providing a separate locking point.
The family can now use an entry code instead of reaching for a key each time, while keeping a physical key available when needed. This installation formed part of the security upgrade we discussed for their new property.
