Changing the Mechanical Locks After the Key Was Stolen
The customer wanted to change which mechanical key operated his truck. Simply making another key with the original cuts would not address that concern, because the stolen key would still fit the existing cylinders.
Our mobile technician replaced the ignition lock cylinder with a new cylinder using a different key combination. We then removed and rekeyed the door lock cylinders to match, allowing the customer to use the new key for both the doors and ignition.
This work changed the mechanical access points involved: the stolen key’s blade could no longer unlock the rekeyed doors or turn the replacement ignition cylinder.
We also cut and programmed a new Ford key for the vehicle. Before completing the service, we tested the door locks, ignition operation, and engine start to confirm that the replacement key worked correctly.
The completed job gave the owner a working replacement key and addressed his specific concern about someone using the stolen mechanical key. The door cylinders and ignition now operated with the new key combination.
