Cutting and Programming Two Replacement Honda Keys
Our mobile technician identified the correct key type and determined the required blade cuts using the vehicle’s lock information. With the original key missing, we prepared both replacements without duplicating an existing key.
Using a computerized key-cutting machine, we cut two blades to match the Civic’s door and ignition locks. Accurate cutting addressed mechanical operation, but the keys also needed electronic programming before they could start the engine.
This Civic used transponder keys, which communicate with the vehicle’s immobilizer system. We connected our diagnostic programming equipment to the vehicle and registered both replacement keys with its security system.
After programming, we tested each key individually. We checked ignition operation, confirmed that both keys started the engine, and tested the door locks and remote buttons before completing the service.
The customer received two working keys in total, giving him an everyday key and a spare to store separately. Having that additional key available would help him avoid being left without a working key if one went missing again.
