Cutting and Programming a Replacement Honda Key
With no original key available to copy, we obtained the vehicle’s key-cutting information and used a computerized cutting machine to prepare the replacement. The new key was cut to operate the Accord’s ignition and door locks.
For this vehicle, cutting the mechanical key was only part of the process. Its transponder immobilizer system also required the replacement key’s chip to be registered before it could start the engine.
Our technician connected programming equipment to the vehicle and programmed the new transponder key. We then tested the door locks, ignition operation, and engine start to confirm the replacement worked correctly.
The customer received a working key and could use her Honda again without moving it to another location. With access restored, having a spare made is a practical way to reduce the inconvenience of losing the only key again.
