A commercial property in Paramus, Bergen County, NJ, needed a way to discourage everyday use of an emergency exit while keeping the door available for people leaving the building. American Star Locksmith installed a DETEX exit alarm on the metal door, paired with push-bar exit hardware.

Your Security Our First Priority
An Audible Warning When the Exit Is Used
The installation features a silver-colored DETEX alarm unit positioned above the door’s horizontal push bar. A clearly visible red sign reads “Emergency Exit Only” and warns that an alarm will sound when the door is opened.
The alarm helps alert staff to use of the exit and discourages people from treating it as a routine entrance or shortcut. Its role is to provide an audible warning while the push bar provides the door’s exit operation.
Our technician inspected the metal door, measured the mounting positions, and securely fitted the DETEX hardware. We checked the alignment of the exit hardware with the frame and tested the push bar, latch operation, and alarm activation.
Exit Hardware That Serves the Property’s Needs
This setup combines controlled monitoring with straightforward operation from inside. People can use the push bar to leave without entering a code or finding a key, while the armed alarm draws attention to the door being opened.
For this Paramus property, the installation addressed unwanted exit use without turning the alarm into a barrier to leaving.
