Restoring Interior Exit Operation and Exterior Keyed Access
Our technician opened the exit device housing to inspect the latch assembly, springs, and moving components. We repaired the mechanism responsible for retracting the latch and adjusted its operation so that pushing the panic bar released the door properly from inside.
The work also included replacing the exterior mortise cylinder. We removed the old cylinder and installed a new commercial-grade replacement, aligning its cam with the existing locking mechanism to restore keyed access from outside.
These two parts serve different purposes: the panic bar operates the exit mechanism from inside, while the exterior cylinder controls keyed access. We addressed both as part of the entrance repair.
After reassembling the hardware, we repeatedly tested the panic bar, exterior pull handle, latch engagement, and new cylinder. The completed work restored smooth operation without replacing the entire door or exit device.
