Replacing the Cylinder While Keeping the Mortise Lock
Our technician inspected the existing mortise lock and determined that the cylinder could be replaced while retaining the lock body inside the door. This addressed the lost-key concern without replacing the complete locking mechanism.
The mortise cylinder is the key-operated component that controls the lock. We removed the original cylinder, checked the existing lock body, and installed a compatible replacement with new keys.
After installation, we verified the cylinder’s alignment and tested locking and unlocking. We also checked that the door closed securely and that the replacement operated correctly with the existing mechanism.
The missing house keys could no longer operate the new front door cylinder. The homeowner received new keys and regained control over access through that entrance.
