Adding a Separate Keyed Lock Above the Existing Keypad
We prepared the metal mounting area and fitted the additional keyed deadbolt above the existing keypad hardware. This gave the customer a separate locking mechanism on the exterior security door while retaining the keypad lock below.
Installing hardware on a metal security door requires attention to the available mounting surface and the relationship between the door and frame. Our technician secured the deadbolt and aligned its bolt with the receiving opening so the mechanism could engage correctly.
A deadbolt extends a solid bolt into its receiving point rather than relying on a spring-loaded latch. Its effectiveness depends on the complete installation, including secure mounting and proper engagement with the frame.
After fitting the hardware, we tested the key and bolt movement several times. We checked that the new deadbolt locked and unlocked smoothly without binding.
