Cutting and Programming a Replacement Without the Original Key
Our mobile locksmith arrived with key-cutting and automotive programming equipment to complete the job where the Civic was parked.
We obtained the correct key-cutting information for the vehicle and used a computerized cutting machine to prepare a replacement blade that matched its locks. Since the original key was missing, the new blade was produced using the vehicle’s key specifications rather than copying an existing key.
The next step was programming the transponder. Cutting the blade allowed it to operate the mechanical locks, but the replacement also needed to be recognized by the vehicle’s immobilizer before it could start the engine.
We connected our programming equipment to the vehicle’s diagnostic port and registered the new transponder key. After programming, we tested the ignition, door locks, and remote functions to confirm that the replacement worked properly.
The customer could drive home with a functioning key, and the vehicle did not need to be towed to a dealership.
